Sarasota, FL- 81-year-old Sarasotan (and LWVSC member) Rhana Bazzini has completed her 400 mile walk to Tallahassee to raise awareness of the need to address corporate personhood and money in politics. Over 100 people walked the final leg of the journey to the Capitol steps with Rhana including Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Lessig (founder of the MayDay PAC), former Green Party Presidential Candidate David Cobb (Move To Amend), and John Bonifaz (Free Speech for People). Rhana is now back in Sarasota and planning the next step in her campaign to change the system. Supporters will welcome Rhana back on Monday, December 8th at 6pm at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center. There will be a slide show with pictures from the walk, a chance for Rhana to reflect on the walk and refreshments. The event is FREE and open to the public.
At 7pm, Move to Amend Spokesman David Cobb will speak on “Creating Democracy and Challenging Corporate Rule”. Part history lesson and part heart-felt call to action, the forum will focus on how Sarasota can join the national movement against Corporate Personhood. Cobb will provide information about the issue and facilitate a discussion about local action in Sarasota and in communities across the United States to win the amendment campaign through grassroots mobilization.
“We are a diverse coalition with deep roots in communities nationwide. We recognize that amending the Constitution to restore the power of the people over corporations will not be easy, but we know correcting the Supreme Court is imperative to the progress of our nation,” stated Cobb.
