City of Sarasota Considers Assault Weapon Resolution

SARASOTA – The City Commission will consider a resolution calling for new gun control measures limiting “military-grade, high-capacity magazine assault weapons” at its meeting June 20.
The “Safe Communities Initiative” resolution follows the shooting deaths of 49 victims at the Orlando Pulse nightclub Sunday morning, including Eddie Sotomayor Jr., 34, of Sarasota.
The commission will consider the resolution at 6 p.m. June 20 at City Hall at 1565 First St., Sarasota. Members of the Sarasota LWV Gun Safety Committee will attend.
