The voter registration committee was active this summer preparing for National Voter Registration Day on September 24, 2019. Committee members registered citizens to vote at four public libraries throughout Sarasota County and the Ringling College of Art & Design. In addition, the committee members are preparing to celebrate Women’s Suffragette Year beginning this fall and continuing through 2020. For the celebration, our chapter will partner with the Florida Studio Theatre, along with other organizations, to participate in forums, plays, and the downtown holiday parade.
During August and early September we registered students at New College and Ringling College of Art & Design. Both colleges have asked us to return and register students on Constitution Day, September 17th. Looking toward the Venice city elections, two assisted living facilities have invited us to assist with their resident voter registration needs. Also, the chapter will be a sponsor at Tiger Bay in November where our committee will be on site to update or register voters.
The committee continues to encourage our members to become League Certified to register voters. Our ability to reach out to various groups, businesses, and schools, depends on having sufficient certified members to meet the demand. Remember, voting is our best chance to raise our voices to our elected officials.
