Jon Thaxton, Moderator Panelists: Sandy Gilbert, Steve Suau, David Tomasko
Jon Thaxton creates and implements Gulf Coast Community Foundation’s key strategies for transforming our region’s nonprofit community and providing leadership on emerging issues. Jon served12 years as a Sarasota County Commissioner and is recognized throughout Florida as a leading advocate for protecting the natural environment.
20 years ago, Sandy Gilbert joined START to help find solutions to mitigate red tide’s harmful effects on the environment and the economy. In 2010 he was named Chairman of START. Sandy also was a founding member of the Sarasota Bay Watch.
Stephen Suau is a professional engineer and hydrologist with over 35 years of experience in southwest Florida specializing in water resources and watershed management. He has worked in both the public and public sectors chairing or co-chairing committees concerned with water and environment management. He currently serves on the Technical Advisory Committee for the Coastal Heartland National Estuary Program and the Sarasota Bay Water Quality Consortium.
Dr. Dave Tomasko is the new Executive Director of the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program. He has more than 30 years of experience in water quality assessments and the development of science-based natural resource management plans throughout Florida, across the Gulf of Mexico and in various international locations.
