What Is Redistricting and Why is it Important to You?


Every ten years when U.S. census data becomes available, legislative districts across the country are reapportioned. This presentation will cover the fundamentals of Redistricting, define Gerrymandering and review the history of Florida Fair Districts. We will discuss the critical work of keeping redistricting fair and the fight for transparency in the legislative process. Join us for this discussion of actions that will set the course in your county, state and country for the next ten years.

Vilia Johnson is a year-round Sarasota resident. She grew up in Tampa and holds BA degrees in Speech/Communications and Political Science from the University of South Florida. Vilia currently serves on the Board of the League of Women Voters of Sarasota County where she is Team Leader for the Election Reform and Advocacy Committees.
