A victory: Local officials can speak out on gun violence

At last night’s well-attended and powerful St. Petersburg Preventing Gun Violence community conversation, Council Chair Lisa Wheeler-Bowman noted that, as a result of her inquiry to the State Attorney’s office early last year, local officials can speak out on gun violence issues. There has been confusion about this because of the state’s preemption, which gives the power to regulate firearms solely to the state legislature. (Many still believe that local officials risk fines or jail time if they speak out.)

More details at local officials can speak out on Gun Safety.
Please make your local elected & appointed officials aware of this.
