The League of Women Voters of Sarasota County (LWVSRQ) is a grassroots citizen engagement organization dedicated to encouraging informed and active participation in government by all citizens, working to increase understanding of major local, state, and national public policy issues, and influencing public policy through education and advocacy.

The League never supports or opposes a candidate or political party. We help voters learn about government issues and candidates. Our Advocacy positions are based on the careful study and consensus of the merits of each issue.

LWV SRQ visits Supervisor of Elections Offices

On Jan. 15, LWV SRQ visited the offices of Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner. Staff members demonstrated some of the equipment used to count votes, introduced us to a class for poll workers, and showed us some of the procedures for candidate filing and qualification. We also had the opportunity to ask specific questions about revised voter registration rules.

Nominations now open for 2020 – 2022 Board

At our Annual Meeting in April, the members of the Sarasota LWV will vote for the officers of our 2020-2021 Board. Current Board members whose terms are expiring are being contacted regarding their willingness to continue serving in their current positions.  We are also seeking potential candidates who would be interested in becoming a Board member and assisting us in reaching our League goals. If you are interested in being a candidate for a Board position, please contact the Nominating Committee at Nominate@lwvsrq.org. We also welcome your suggestions for potential candidates. The deadline for submissions is February 8, 2020.
